LONDON: New York Comic Con has become the largest comics convention in North America.

The event attracted numbers in excess of San Diego's Comic-Con International, which has traditionally been the biggest event of its kind, reported Digital Spy.

ReedPOP sold tickets for NYCC to 151,000 unique individuals for the previous weekend's convention.

San Diego's numbers have been capped at 130,000 for some years due to limits to its convention space.

A proposed expansion of the local convention centre has been refused. The event organisers have allegedly been considering moving Comic-Con International to another city.

NYCC saw a string of announcements, including numerous from Dark Horse and Marvel Comics.
