The last week of August is bringing a mix of crime thrillers, emotional dramas, biopics and returning series to streaming platforms. From films that are making their digital debut after an underwhelming theatrical run to a much-awaited second season of a popular sci-fi thriller, there is plenty to choose from. If your weekend watchlist is still empty, these new releases across Netflix, ZEE5, Prime Video, JioHotstar, SonyLIV and Apple TV+ could give you several options.

Bandar – ZEE5

Anurag Kashyap's Bandar, starring Bobby Deol, is heading to ZEE5 on August 28, 2026. The crime thriller, inspired by a real-life incident, revolves around an ageing television actor who finds himself accused of rape by his former girlfriend. After a disappointing theatrical run, the film will now get a second opportunity to connect with audiences through streaming.


I, Nobody – JioHotstar

Prithviraj Sukumaran and Parvathy Thiruvothu's crime thriller I, Nobody will begin streaming on JioHotstar on August 25, 2026. Directed by Nisam Basheer, the film released in Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil and received a mixed response during its theatrical run. Hakkim Shajahan, Ashokan, Vijayaraghavan, Madhupal and Shankar Ramakrishnan also feature in key roles. The complete details about the languages available on OTT are yet to be announced.

The Whisper Man – Netflix

If dark crime stories are your thing, The Whisper Man arrives on Netflix on August 28, 2026. The thriller stars Robert De Niro and Michael Keaton. The story follows crime writer Alex North after his young son is abducted. He seeks help from his estranged father, retired detective Frank Carter, and their investigation eventually connects the kidnapping to a decades-old case involving convicted serial killer Pete Willis, known as the Whisper Man.

Babita Singh Reporting – Prime Video

Babita Singh Reporting will premiere on Prime Video on August 28, 2026, with Nimisha Sajayan leading the cast. The story follows Babita Singh, also known as Baby, a suspended police officer who returns to her in-laws' home after being removed from active duty. When her childhood friend is murdered, she begins investigating the case despite having no official authority. The investigation soon brings back memories and unresolved relationships from her past.

Anbe Diana – SonyLIV

Tamil romantic drama Anbe Diana will also arrive on August 28, 2026, this time on SonyLIV. The film stars Pari Elavazhagan and Ramya Ranganathan. It follows athletics coach CSK, who has secretly loved his neighbour Diana D'Souza since their school days. When Diana finally returns his feelings, their romance faces opposition from their families, cultural differences and old neighbourhood rivalries. Roja plays CSK's mother Sarala, who strongly objects to the relationship.

Dark Matter Season 2 – Apple TV+

Fans of Dark Matter have another reason to return to the Apple TV+ universe. Season 2 premieres on August 27, 2026, with Joel Edgerton returning in the lead. The new season will consist of 10 episodes. Unlike a binge release, the season will begin with one episode, followed by a new episode every Friday. The season is scheduled to conclude on October 30, 2026.

Michael – JioHotstar

The story of one of the world's biggest music stars arrives on streaming with Michael, the biographical drama about Michael Jackson. The film stars Jaafar Jackson as the legendary singer and traces his journey from his early years with the Jackson Five to his transformation into a global solo superstar. Michael will premiere on JioHotstar on August 29, 2026.

The Last Sunrise – Prime Video

The Last Sunrise is another addition to this week's streaming lineup. Based on the novel of the same name, the film follows a college student living with a chronic illness who learns to make the most of the present. The cast includes Eva Longoria, Maia Reficco and Fernando Lindez. The film will stream on Prime Video, although a specific release date was not provided in the information available.
