Movie lovers have plenty of options to choose from this weekend, whether they prefer giant monsters, dark comedy, survival horror or crime thrillers. A new Godzilla film has arrived in theatres, Sam Rockwell and John Malkovich are teaming up for a historical drama, and Zach Cregger's latest Resident Evil film is now available to rent or buy. For those who would rather stay home, Samara Weaving's crime thriller Carolina Caroline has also landed on Netflix. Here is a look at the new films to watch over the weekend of November 7 and 8, 2026.

'Godzilla Minus Zero': The monster returns to theatres

Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus Zero is the follow-up to the 2023 Japanese film Godzilla Minus One. The story takes place two years after the events of the previous film, as Japan struggles to rebuild following the destruction caused by Godzilla. Just when the country begins to recover, another threat appears. The film brings back the emotional themes and large-scale destruction that made its predecessor popular.

'Wild Horse Nine': Sam Rockwell and John Malkovich lead a dark comedy

If you enjoy films with sharp humour and an unusual story, Wild Horse Nine is another option. Directed by Martin McDonagh, the film follows two CIA agents, Chris (John Malkovich) and Lee (Sam Rockwell), who are sent to Easter Island shortly before the 1973 coup in Chile. Their assignment takes an unexpected turn as they confront secrets from their past and become involved with two rebellious students. Steve Buscemi, Tom Waits and Parker Posey also feature in the cast.

'Resident Evil': Zach Cregger's horror film arrives on digital platforms

Those who prefer horror can watch the latest Resident Evil film, directed by Zach Cregger. The movie follows Bryan, a medical courier played by Austin Abrams, who finds himself fighting to survive during a terrifying night in Raccoon City. Unlike earlier instalments that focused heavily on familiar characters from the video games, Cregger's film takes a different approach, following one man's struggle against infected creatures. The film is now available to rent or buy on digital platforms, including Apple TV and Prime Video.

'Carolina Caroline': Samara Weaving's crime thriller arrives on Netflix

For viewers looking for something to stream at home, Carolina Caroline is now available on Netflix. The thriller stars Samara Weaving as Caroline Daniels, a restless woman from West Texas who gets involved with a charming con artist played by Kyle Gallner. What begins as a journey with a stranger soon turns into a dangerous series of scams and heists. The film also features Kyra Sedgwick and Jon Gries.

Other new movies to watch this weekend

  1. The Cat in the Hat: The animated adaptation of Dr Seuss's popular children's book features Bill Hader as the voice of the mischievous Cat. It follows the character as he tries to bring fun and excitement into the lives of two siblings.
  2. I Play Rocky: Anthony Ippolito plays a young Sylvester Stallone in this film about the actor's struggle to get Rocky made and secure the lead role for himself. It is playing in select theatres ahead of a wider release on November 20.
  3. Jimmy: KJ Apa stars as Hollywood actor James Stewart in a film that explores his military service and decision to serve his country during wartime.
Whether it is Godzilla's return to the big screen, a dark comedy set against Chile's political history or a crime thriller on Netflix, this weekend's releases offer something for different kinds of movie fans.
