New MacBook Pro review: Pro laptop for top professionals

Apple’s latest MacBook Pro, which has an expensive price tag of Rs 1,94,900, comes with all-new M1 processors — M1 Pro and M1 Max — and is a machine for professionals, not a casual user. Apple has reintroduced many ports that were missing in previous-generation models. There is an SD card slot, an HDMI port, and the MagSafe charging standard. The divisive Touch Bar is not included.

The new MacBook weighs around 1.6 kg, and the build quality is solid. The 14-inch Pro version comes with an M1 Pro processor that has 10 CPU and 16 GPU cores. It has 1TB of storage and 16GB RAM.

Apps open quickly and there is no lag or stutter -- be it video editing or photo editing, the MacBook Pro performs both routine as well as heavyduty tasks with consummate ease. The M1 processor introduced last year was impressive, but the M1 Pro is several notches higher in performance.


The 14-inch display offers 3024 X 1964 resolution. Apple offers Extreme Dynamic Range, and the display has up to 1600 nits of peak brightness.

The refresh rate also goes up to 120Hz. The colour reproduction is accurate and the display is crisp. There is a notch for the video camera and the cursor disappears when you take it there.

Apple has, however, designed the macOS in such a way that it does not become a hindrance while using most apps. The MacBook Pro 14-inch is for those who want a laptop that delivers exceptional performance on every count.
