New documentary focuses on John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette's turbulent relationship
The documentary is being released on the 20th anniversary of the death of the couple.

Kennedy Jr. was flying the plane that went down in the Atlantic near Martha’s Vineyard. Her sister, Lauren Bessette, was also killed.
ABC is airing a two-hour documentary titled 'The Last Days of John F. Kennedy, Jr.', which will focus heavily on the plane crash and the couple’s tumultuous relationship.
'The Last Days of JFK Jr.' features interviews from numerous expert sources, including pilot Kyle Bailey, who saw JFK Jr. at the airport on the evening of his fateful flight, and Arnot, who knew JFK Jr. and flew a similar route (from New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport to Nantucket) on the same night at around the same time JFK Jr. was in the air.

The documentary covers more than that tragic night, including details about JFK Jr.’s secret wedding to Bessette-Kennedy. According to JFK. Jr biographer J. Randy Taraborrelli, Bessette-Kennedy and a friend printed out the wedding invitations in an office on a Xerox machine themselves, fearing that the information would leak if they were sent to an outside company for printing.
After their dream wedding, attention on them only intensified. Life in the spotlight took its toll on Bessette, in turn affecting Kennedy.
The couple was under constant media scrutiny. Kennedy Jr. always tried hard to protect the love of his life and keep her away from the paparazzi, however he failed at most of his attempts.
In July 1999, the couple and Bessette's sister, Lauren, were flying to Cape Cod. They took off only around 8 in the evening and Kennedy had very little experience of flying at night. He made the mistake of flying over the dark ocean, became disoriented and crashed into the Atlantic.
