On the grapevine: New boss gets vote of confidence

The first day of work for a new top boss is inevitably heralded by the sound of trumpets, in a manner of speaking. But what is to be done if the in-coming honcho’s arrival has been preceded by corporate warfare and bloodshed that have provided ink for many an eye-grabbing headline?

What if the appointment takes place on the same day that an entire city heads to the booth for its civic polls? Do you still go to town with a memorable induction party? Or do you play it down, so that the rival team doesn’t use it in the subsequent days as fodder?

Well, it appears the said conglomerate will take a vote on it over the weekend. For now, all that may be on the table is an intimate cake-cutting ceremony.
