Today Narayana Murthy is an inspiration to many. But growing up, the Infosys co-founder looked up to many great names for motivation himself. At a function at a US university last month, Murthy revealed who was oft-quoted as an example to follow in his household.

The benchmark was set high for a young NRN by his father, a high school teacher. Murthy senior would often quote former US president Thomas Jefferson, when insisting that his children learn to cultivate the courage of their convictions.

Perhaps that was a starting point for India’s IT man to develop his belief in the power of the human mind. “What appears impossible today will be made a convincing possibility because of the human mind, and we have seen how the human mind has transformed this world from the Stone Age to where we are today. I don’t think that’s going to end,” he said, during his remarks.
