Nana Patekar death updates: Nana Patekar, one of Indian cinema’s most respected actors, has died at 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his Goa residence. As tributes pour in, Patekar is being remembered for his acclaimed work across Hindi and Marathi cinema, including films such as Parinda, Prahaar, Natsamrat and Welcome. He also had a rare association with the Indian armed forces, having joined the Territorial Army and serving as a major.

Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, told ANI that a medico-legal case had been registered and that a post-mortem would be conducted. Patekar's son, Malhar Patekar, also confirmed his death to local media.
Nana Patekar to receive state funeral
Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar has announced that Patekar would be given a state funeral to recognise his contribution to theatre and cinema, PTI reported.
Born Vishwanath Patekar, the actor built a career that spanned across Hindi and Marathi cinema. He was known for his intense screen presence and performances that often became a talking point among viewers of the films he appeared in.
He made his film debut with Gaman in 1978 and went on to act in films including Parinda, Prahaar, Agni Sakshi, Khamoshi: The Musical, Shakti: The Power, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan, Rajneeti and Welcome.
His performance in Parinda earned him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor and he was also closely associated with Marathi cinema through films such as Natsamrat and Ole Aale. His last appearance was in Suresh Triveni's Subedaar, in which he starred alongside Anil Kapoor.
Nana Patekar's work with the Territorial Army
Away from cinema, Patekar had joined the Territorial Army as a captain in 1988 and underwent military training while preparing for his directorial debut, Prahaar: The Final Attack.
During the making of the film, he worked with then Lieutenant Colonel V K Singh, who also appeared in the movie.
His association with the military later got extended beyond just preparation for a film. During the 1999 Kargil War, Patekar served with the Maratha Light Infantry as a major. He eventually retired from the Territorial Army in 2013 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Career across acting, direction and Marathi cinema
Patekar's career was not limited to acting. His work on Prahaar: The Final Attack marked his directorial debut, along with a career that had already included theatre and films in two languages. His filmography included commercial successes as well as critically recognised performances.

Actors Jackie Shroff, Anil Sharma and producer Sajid Nadiadwala attended the last rites, along with political dignitaries. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also arrived to pay his respects, while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tribute to the actor at Pune airport.
