Nana Patekar cause of death: Veteran Bollywood actor dies at 75. He was found unconscious at his Goa residence
Nana Patekar, the renowned veteran actor, has passed away at his residence due to a severe cardiac arrest. Found unconscious, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where medical professionals attempted to revive him with continuous CPR.

According to ANI report, the veteran actor died at around 5:20 AM on Thursday. Doctors attempted to revive him with continuous CPR for about 45 minutes, but he could not be saved. Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, confirmed the actor’s death. A medico-legal case has been registered, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
He was found unconscious at his Goa home and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The post-mortem is expected to provide further medical details.
His sudden death has brought an end to a career that spanned more than four decades. Patekar was widely recognised for his intense acting style, distinctive dialogue delivery and ability to take on characters that were often complex, flawed or unconventional.
Nana Patekar's early life and film career
Born Vishwanath Patekar on January 1, 1951, in Maharashtra, the actor entered Hindi cinema with Gaman in 1978. He gradually built a reputation as a performer who could bring considerable intensity to his roles. His work in both Hindi and Marathi cinema helped establish him as one of the most respected actors of his generation.His breakthrough came with films such as Salaam Bombay! and Parinda. His performance in Parinda earned him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor, marking an important milestone in his career. He later delivered acclaimed performances in films including Angaar, Tirangaa, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi and Khamoshi: The Musical.
Patekar continued to take on a wide range of roles through the 1990s and 2000s. Some of his notable films included Yeshwant, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan, Raajneeti, Bhoot, Deewangee and Hu Tu Tu.
His performances often stood out for their strong screen presence rather than conventional heroism. He was equally comfortable playing serious characters, morally complicated figures and police officers.
For a younger generation of viewers, Patekar became particularly popular for his comic role as Uday Shetty in the Welcome franchise. His chemistry with Anil Kapoor's Majnu Bhai turned the two characters into one of the most memorable comic pairs in Hindi cinema.
The role showed a different side of the actor, who was otherwise widely associated with intense and dramatic performances. He later reprised the character in Welcome Back.
The veteran actor's contribution was not limited to Hindi films. He maintained a strong connection with Marathi cinema and theatre throughout his career. He also ventured into filmmaking and made his directorial debut with Prahaar: The Final Attack in 1991.
He later appeared in films such as Natsamrat and other Marathi projects.
Awards and recognition
Over his long career, Nana Patekar received several major honours. He won three National Film Awards and was also honoured with the Padma Shri in 2013 for his contribution to cinema and the arts. His National Award wins included recognition for his performances in Parinda, Krantiveer and Agni Sakshi.Away from films, Nana Patekar was also known for his association with social causes. He had supported farmers and families affected by agrarian distress and was involved in efforts aimed at helping people facing financial difficulties.
Despite being one of Indian cinema's most recognisable actors, Nana Patekar largely maintained a private life away from the spotlight.
