‘My mom burned it’: Keerthy Suresh recalls mother reading her diary, discovering relationship with Antony Thattil. Akka actress reveals family opposition to interfaith marriage

Almost 2 years after her wedding, actress Keerthy Suresh has opened up about how her family opposed her interfaith marriage with businessman Antony Thattil. While Keerthy comes from a Hindu background, her husband is Christian. The Mahanati actress revealed that she had been dating Antony for nearly 15 years when she was 17 years old, right after completing her 12th grade. The 34-year-old also shared the story of how her mother found out about her relationship with Anthony. Anthony is 7 years older than Keerthy.

Keerthy Suresh’s mom burned her diary

Keerthy Suresh, in a conversation with Curly Tales, revealed that her mother read her personal diary when she was in college. That’s how she discovered that Keerthy was dating Anthony. ‘She was like, ‘I’m your mother; I can read your diary,’ recalled the actress.

Keerthy said that after the incident, she stopped writing her diary altogether, though she loved writing. She admitted being clueless about where her diary was, hoping to get it back. ‘But I have a feeling that my mom burned it,’ she noted.

In the same conversation, Keerthy talked about her interfaith marriage and family challenges. ‘We met in December 2009, and we started dating in January 2010. In 2024, we got married,’ she said, adding that there were problems at her home because Anthony was a Christian. But eventually Keerthy succeeded in convincing her family.

Keerthy also mentioned that it wasn’t difficult for her to keep her relationship with Anthony away from the public eye and paparazzi. ‘In fact, it was very easy,’ she claimed, adding that they never went on holidays together, so as not to get spotted. They even made sure to spend time with friends around, instead of going out exclusively. ‘Even when we posted pictures, nobody would have known that this person was my boyfriend,’ she said.

Workwise, Keerthy Suresh was last seen in the Hindi crime thriller Akka. The 5-episode series, also starring Radhika Apte, arrived on Netflix on October 30. Tanvi Azmi, Anshumaan Pushkar, Poornima Indrajith, Vishak Nair and B. Jayashree, among others, are also part of the cast.
