Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi is returning to the OTT space with a new web series that has already started drawing attention online. Titled Muthu Engira Kaattaan, the upcoming Tamil action-drama revolves around a mysterious man whose life seems to be described in very different ways by different people. With its trailer now out and the release date confirmed, the series is expected to be one of the notable Tamil OTT releases this month.

The web series Muthu Engira Kaattaan will start streaming from March 27, 2026, on the OTT platform JioHotstar. The project was first introduced during the streamer’s South Unbound event where several upcoming titles from the southern entertainment industry were announced.


While sharing the trailer and confirming the release date on social media, the platform wrote:
“Yaaru Intha Muthu Engira Kaattaan (Who is this Muthu alias Kaattaan)? Hotstar Specials Muthu Engira Kaattaan streaming from March 27 only on JioHotstar. Created by M. Manikandan and directed by M. Manikandan & B. Ajithkumar.”

The promotional material raised the central question of the story — who exactly Muthu is and why people have such different opinions about him.

Story and Cast

The series revolves around a mysterious man named Muthu whose life story is told through different perspectives. While some people see him as a saviour or legend, others describe him as dangerous or almost mythical. As the narrative unfolds, it tries to uncover the truth behind these conflicting accounts.

The show stars Vijay Sethupathi and Milind Soman, with Sudev Nair, Vadivel Murugan, Risha Jacobs, VJ Parvathy, Kalaivani Bhaskar and Muthukumar in supporting roles. It is created by M. Manikandan, who co-directs the series with B. Ajithkumar, while music is composed by Rajesh Murugesan and cinematography is handled by Madhu Neelakandan.

Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi has several projects lined up. He will next be seen in Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road, directed by Puri Jagannadh, alongside Samyuktha and Tabu. He has also announced Pocket Novel, directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja, which marks their reunion after Super Deluxe and will feature Malavika Mohanan and Raj B. Shetty. In addition, he is expected to make a cameo in Jailer 2 starring Rajinikanth, while also appearing in Arasan with Silambarasan TR and another upcoming film directed by Mani Ratnam alongside Sai Pallavi.
