On Monday, Arun Jatia, executive chairman of Mumbai-based Pudumjee Group, clinched the sale of his 30,000 square feet family home, Jatia House. Industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla successfully made the top bid for this two-storeyed bungalow in South Mumbai's affluent district of Malabar Hill.

At Rs 425 crore, this is touted as Mumbai's largest-ever property deal.

Speaking from his office on Tuesday, Jatia said, "I am very happy that Jatia House has been sold to a good family with good people. As I understand from media reports, Mr Birla doesn't plan to tear the house down. Both my wishes have come true. That my house has such good new owners and they will reserve it for personal use."

Jatia House has been home to the MP Jatia clan for over 40 years. Jatia was about nine years old when he first moved in. The family put t he house on the block as they found it too large for its few members.
