On Wednesday, Mumbai’s theatre aficionados journeyed southwards to attend a Chinese opera, a first in the city. Despite being a mid-week show, this Bravia Sadir Theatre Festival Production, The Peony Pavilion, performed at the Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, a part of National Centre for Performing Arts ( NCPA), saw a neat turnout of diplomats, corporate bosses and theatre personalities.

But as there were hits, there were misses too. A source tells us that Mumbai top cop, Rakesh Maria confirmed his presence, along with his wife. However, he did not turn up. Since the tickets couldn’t be passed on, the seats remained empty.

While we’re glad that the commissioner is tied up keeping Mumbai city crime-free, Maria is gaining a reputation for being the guest who gives his hosts hope, but occasionally also lets them down.

Some of the guests who did show up were Mohan Jaya raman, country manager, Experian India and his wife, Rabindra Jhunjhunwala, Partner, Khaitan & Co, Sujit Cherian, CEO, Bravia Capital, S Subramanium, MD, Axis Capital, Bhaskar Iyer, Nonexecutive director.Abbott-India, Linus D’Souza, VP, HSBC.
