Mumbai and Bangalore love gadgets more than holidays
A curator luxury decors and lifestyle products portal, Artanddecors.com, recently conducted a survey of 2000 upper middle class Indians across 10 cities. The study has revealed that people spend the most on international and exotic holidays, followed by jewellery and electronic gadgets.

Interest in art and painting increased by four per cent in a year's time, says the survey. Almost 33 per cent of the participants considered art, sculpture and luxury watches as heirlooms.

The survey also highlights the city-wise difference in taste. Mumbai residents spend most on gadgets, sculpture and holidays (in that order), Delhiites prefer holidays, gadgets and home décor. Bangaloreans are attracted to gadgets, holidays and jewellery.

The survey also threw light on why people buy luxury items online. Exclusivity and value, outstanding service, anonymity and security and, lastly, convenience, were some of the reasons offered. However, while three out of four luxury shoppers own a smartphone, a majority prefers transacting through desktop/ laptops. Only one in four shopped using apps.

Investment reasons or the desire to own a status symbol were the guiding forces for close to 70 per cent of surveyed people to shop.
