At the banquet thrown at the Rashtrapati Bhavan last month to welcome US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, a treat awaited the guests of honour.

A 23-minute Indian classical dance spectacle featuring Kathakali, Kathak, Odissi, Manipuri and Bharatanatyam. But it wasn’t just the Obamas who were left mesmerised. RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani was impressed as well, congratulating Sanjeev Bhargava, founder of Seher, the organisation that put the act together, over dinner.

“We (Seher) performed at Antilia in 2011, when a corporate delegation was visiting them (Ambanis). It was a pure Indian classical dance performance,” said Bhargava, “Mr Ambani said after our performance at the banquet (on January 25) that ‘you guys are getting better and better’.” We’d trust his vote – after all, Ambani’s wife Nita is a graceful Bha rat a natyam dancer and his father Dhirubhai Ambani did first spot her during a recital.
