Writer-director Habib Faisal's latest fare, as usual, gets the flavours of the working class life right. It is his forte after all — depicting the true colours and raw emotions. He is the man behind movies like Do Dooni Char and Ishaqzaade.

So Daawat-e-Ishq starts off promisingly in his trademark style. Gulrez (Parineeti Chopra) lives in a cramped gully of Hyderabad, but works in a mall as a sales girl. And she has big dreams of marrying a sophisticated, English-speaking man. But her father (Anupam Kher) only seems to get dowry-demanding working class men for her.

Disappointed, the father-daughter duo hatch a grand plan to frame dowry seekers and extract money out of them. They land in Lucknow to execute their con programme. But things take a different route when Gulrez encounters Tariq (Aditya Roy Kapur), a kabab shop owner.



You see a colourful montage of food and street life as the perennially happy Tariq wooes Gulrez. However, their romance seems rushed and unconvincing. There is enough fun and frolicking, song and dance. But the script becomes sloppy and the second half feels stretched.

The actors try their best to add life to a dull film. Parineeti is her jovial self, Aditya Roy Kapur plays the street smart cook with elan and Anupam Kher holds together the character of a helpless father.
