After delivering one of the year's biggest Malayalam hits with Lokah: Chapter 1, actor Naslen returned to the big screen with Mollywood Times, a dark comedy-drama directed by Abhinav Sunder Nayak. Released in theatres on June 5, the film received mixed reactions. While many viewers appreciated its satirical take on the film industry, others felt it didn't quite match the excitement generated before its release. Now, those who missed it in theatres, or want to watch it again, won't have to wait much longer.

Streaming details of the Malayalam movie Mollywood Times

The makers have officially confirmed that Mollywood Times will begin streaming on JioHotstar from July 3, 2026. Announcing the digital premiere on social media, the team described the film as "a love-hate letter to Malayalam cinema," stating its unique take on the workings of the industry.

The film will be available in Malayalam, with Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi dubbed versions, allowing a wider audience to experience the story after its theatrical run.

What is Mollywood Times all about?

The story revolves around Vineeth Madhavan, a young man from Kuttikkanam who dreams of becoming Malayalam cinema's greatest horror filmmaker. Inspired by Hollywood director M. Night Shyamalan, Vineeth believes his ideas can revive the horror genre despite repeated warnings from his father about the realities of the film industry.

He begins his journey by making short films before trying to direct a feature film. Along the way, he encounters several obstacles, including industry politics, creative disagreements and disputes over who deserves credit for ideas. As his ambition grows stronger, so do the personal and professional challenges that come with it.

Determined to protect his artistic vision, Vineeth refuses to compromise, but that decision comes at a cost. His pursuit of recognition begins to affect his relationships and forces him to question how much he is willing to sacrifice for success. The film ultimately explores the thin line between passion and obsession, while offering a satirical look at the inner workings of the Malayalam film industry.

The makers have also said that Mollywood Times draws inspiration from Ayn Rand's novel The Fountainhead as well as director Abhinav Sunder Nayak's own experiences in the industry.
