Mohammed Shami shines in ICC World Cup 2023, gets marriage proposal from Bollywood actress

Mohammed Shami has been having a ball in the ongoing ICC Men's World Cup 2023. The fast bowler who made his Test debut at the Eden Gardens against the West Indies in November 2013, is now India’s leading wicket-taker at Men’s Cricket World Cups with 45 wickets. His World Cup 2023 haul has been earned in just 14 matches.

With this, Shami has displaced Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath who shared the tag of India’s previous highest wicket-taker with 44 wickets each. The Bengal Ranji player has also created a record in taking more hauls of four wickets or more in World Cups than any other bowler, having surpassed Mitchell Starc and Imran Tahir as well

Away from the cricketing field, Shami's antics have found a fan in Bollywood actress, Payal Ghosh. The 33-year-old actress took to X, formerly known as Twitter to share her feelings for the rockstar bowler.


In a tweet, she proposed marriage to Shami on the condition that he would improve his English-communication skills.


Shami hasn't responded to the marriage proposal yet.

The cricketer was earlier married to Internet influencer Hasin Jahan. In 2023, she accused him of demanding dowry and engaging in extramarital relationships during BCCI tours.

Ghosh is an actress-politician. She has worked in multiple Hindi, Telugu and Kannada films. She is the vice-president of the women's wing of Ramdas Athawale's political party. She made her acting debut in the 2008 English TV movie 'Sharpe's Peril'. She made her Tamil debut with the 2009 romantic drama 'Prayanam'.
