Mohabbatein to Deewar: Piyush Goyal gives Kirori Mal College students a Amitabh Bachchan-inspired life lesson

Union Minister Piyush Goyal recently attended Delhi’s Kirori Mal College. While addressing the students, Goyal motivated the students by giving examples of some of Amitabh Bachcan’s popular film titles like Mohabbatein, Zanjeer, Agneepath, Deewar and Lakshya. As per Goyal, students can learn important life lessons from Big B’s character in Mohabbatein as well as take inspiration from his movie titles that encourage young people to break barriers, overcome challenges, stay determined and remain focused on their goals. For the unversed, Amitabh Bachchan is also an alumnus of Kirori Mal College.

Piyush Goyal on Amitabh Bachchan’s famous film titles

Piyush Goyal took the reference of Amitabh Bachhan’s 1973 action thriller Zanjeer, 1975 crime action Deewar, 1990 blockbuster Zanjeer and 2004 war-action Lakshay, also starring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta in important roles. But his special mention was Amitabh’s 2000 movie Mohabbatein, featuring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead.

Piyush Goyal said, ‘Koi bhi ‘Deewar’ aaye, hum har ‘Zanjeer’ ko tod sakte hai. Jeevan toh kathinayion se bhara rahega hi, jeevan mei kahi baar ‘Agnipath’ se bhi guzarna padega. Lekin jo ‘Lakshya’ hai, woh lakshya pakka hai. (Whatever walls come our way, we can break every chain. Life will inevitably be full of challenges, and at times, we will have to walk a path of fire. But we must remain firmly committed to our goals.)’

Piyush Goyal on Amitabh Bachchan’s Mohabbatein

Recalling Amitabh Bachchan’s portrayal of a strict headmaster Narayan Shankar in Mohabbatein, Piyush Goyal stated that much like Big B’s on-screen character, there’s one key thing to learn from him: ‘Jeevan bhar hume 1 student rehna hai, naye naye cheeze seekhna hai (We should remain students forever and learn new things throughtout life).’

In Mohabbatein, Amitabh Bachchan’s Narayan Shankar is opposed to breaking rules. He strongly believes in discipline, upholding traditions and adhering to established norms. But when his expelled student Raj Malhotra (Shah Rukh Khan) returns to Gurukul as a music teacher, he learns to loosen his rigid beliefs, embrace change and understand the importance of love, freedom and individual expression.
