Modern art of India: Millennials prefer connecting with digital artists, online curators

Most young people today would consider themselves the arty type. While there are many folks who enjoy traditional art, nowadays it’s more about the digital medium. With technology being where it is and with so many youngsters already adept at it, it’s no surprise that so much of art is done on computers — even professionally.
The young collector is being proactive to get access to art. Before, it was an art gallery. Today, it’s the online gallery. One such online platform is Art&Found (www.artandfound.co), which curates quality art in the range of Rs 1,800 – Rs 25,000.
Showing the way
Millennials want a direct connection. They are keen to connect with art platforms on Instagram as a point of purchase. Art&Found has garnered close to 18,000 organic followers.
Artworks by Shweta, Snehal, Suzanne, Sumedha, Namrata, Psycollagist, Madhav For Art&Found Millennial collectors are acquiring artworks that have meaning to them. But decision fatigue is common and it also applies to art. This is where curation comes in.
“We go into their homes, talk to them about their space, styles they like, answer their questions,” says founder Aditya Mehta, “The one-on-one time helps us understand the needs of each buyer and connect them with artists that fit their tastes.”

The single-page manuscript was described as the "Autograph manuscript of the 'Allegretto' in B minor for string quartet (WoO 210), composed for an English visitor to Vienna in 1817". It has the words "composed and written by Beethoven himself November 29, 1817 at Vienna" inscribed on it. The manuscript was expected to fetch about 200,000 pounds. The auction house made a statement that there were no takers because of a Beethoven scholar's claim that the manuscript was not authentic.

In 1996, Albert Einstein's earliest available manuscript in which he elaborated on his theory of relativity was auctioned by Sotheby's in Manhattan. The item, which was expected to sell for $4 million-6 million, failed to meet the minimum bid. In 1958, Jack Kilby at Texas Instruments made the world's first microchip by hand. The second prototype of this historic chip went under the hammer in 2014, but failed to meet the reserve price. Father Jamie McLeod had bought an artwork from a small antique shop in Cheshire for £400. It later came to light that the artwork was an original Van Dyck painting. It was discovered after a television show evaluated the painting.
