Mithali praises ‘Shabaash Mithu’ trailer. ‘Mr & Mrs Mahi’, ‘Chakda Xpress' and other cricket films to release

Bollywood and cricket are the two main religions of India, and when these two come together in a sports(wo)man biopic or a feature film on cricket, we expect nothing but fireworks. Sushant Singh Rajput delivered that promised firework in ‘Dhoni’, Shahid Kapoor wore the ‘Jersey’ phenomenally well(despite the film being dud at box-office), ‘Iqbal’ and ‘Kaun Praveen Tambe’ struck a chord with all our hearts and ‘83’ saw Ranveer Singh deliver a restrained and nuanced performance lately.

Today, we saw the trailer of another Bollywood film that promises to celebrate cricket. This film, titled 'Shabaash Mithu' is on former Indian cricketer Mithali Raj, who gained unprecedented success in women’s cricket in the past decade. The trailer of the film, starring Tapsee Panu recently dropped on YouTube and Raj seems very happy at seeing Panu as her onscreen avatar. Taking to Instagram, the legendary cricketer said, “One game, One nation, One ambition… My Dream! Grateful to the team and excited to share my story with you all!”

In the trailer, Panu tries to impress the audience with her portrayal of Raj. Apart from this film, there are several other cricket films that will soon test their fate at the box-office. Here’s a look at them:


'Mr and Mrs Mahi'
Starring Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao in lead roles, and produced by Dharma Productions, the teaser of this film reveals little about its plot, except that Rao will play the role of Mahi aka Mahendra, while Kapoor will essay a character called Mahima. This is touted to be the second film to be based on former cricket captain, MS Dhoni’s life.

'Chakda Xpress'
Anushka Sharma is playing the lead in the sports drama based on the life of former Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami. Very similar to ‘Shabaash Mithu’ the teaser of this film gives us a glimpse of that episode in which the women’s cricket team were given jerseys with men’s names on them.

‘Chakda Express’ traces the glorious journey of one of the fastest female pacers in the history of world cricket as she moves up the ladder despite the countless hindrances posed by misogynistic politics to fulfil her only dream: to play cricket.

Dada:
As the name suggests, the dada of the ‘big brother’ of Indian cricket, Sourav Ganguly will get a biopic of his own which will chronicle his fabulous start, and the meteoric climb to fame, as well as show his controversial phase of life. The film will reportedly be bankrolled by LUV Films, and feature Ranbir Kapoor as the legendary cricketer.
