For women without a safe place to live, a home can mean far more than four walls and a roof. It can offer security, stability and a chance to rebuild their lives. Miley Cyrus is helping make that possible with a $1 million donation towards a new housing development in Los Angeles. The singer’s contribution, made through the Miley Cyrus Foundation, will support Rosa’s Place, a project designed to provide permanent homes for women experiencing homelessness, including survivors of violence. Cyrus and her mother, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, will also help shape the interiors of the new development.

Miley Cyrus’ $1 Million Donation Will Help House 97 Women

Rosa’s Place is being developed in the Skid Row neighbourhood of downtown Los Angeles by the Downtown Women’s Center (DWC). The project will provide 97 permanent apartments for women who have experienced homelessness, including those leaving situations involving violence. The donation was announced at the DWC’s Every Woman Housed Gala on October 10, 2026. The event recognised Cyrus and her mother for their philanthropic support of women and survivors of violence.

The development will offer more than accommodation. Plans include shared community spaces, a learning centre, a courtyard and a wellness area for mothers. Residents will also have access to case management, health services and job-readiness programmes. These services are intended to help women work towards long-term stability rather than simply find temporary shelter. According to PEOPLE, the project is expected to open in 2027.

Why Miley Cyrus Says Having A Home Matters

Miley has spoken about how her own experience of having a supportive family shaped her understanding of homelessness. “I have always thought of home as my safe place,” she told Billboard, adding that she had been moved by the number of young people who lacked that security. Her involvement with homelessness charities stretches back more than a decade. In 2014, she drew attention to youth homelessness at the MTV Video Music Awards by inviting Jesse Helt, a young man experiencing homelessness, to accept her award for Video of the Year.

She subsequently launched the Happy Hippie Foundation, which supported homeless young people, LGBTQ+ youth and other vulnerable communities. The initiative is now part of the Miley Cyrus Foundation. Miley Cyrus has also supported My Friend’s Place, a Los Angeles organisation working with young people experiencing homelessness, and the Downtown Women’s Centre. Her latest donation extends that work to women who need secure housing and support to rebuild their lives.

A Partnership That Goes Beyond Financial Support

Miley Cyrus and her mother are expected to contribute to the design of Rosa’s Place, helping create spaces intended to feel welcoming to the women who will live there. Speaking about the project, Cyrus said her encounters with women supported by the Downtown Women’s Center had stayed with her. “Their strength, resilience and hope stay with me long after I leave,” she said, according to Hits Daily Double.

The fundraising gala also brought together donors and supporters to help finance the centre’s wider housing and services campaign. Miley Cyrus’ $1 million contribution will help turn that need into a practical response: permanent apartments backed by services designed to support residents beyond their move-in date. The project will not solve Los Angeles’ wider homelessness crisis on its own. But for the women who eventually move into Rosa’s Place, it could provide something fundamental — a safe place to live and the opportunity to begin again.
