Mika Singh reveals Gauri Khan’s ‘one demand’ while designing his 99th house; shares SRK 'scared' him about the cost

Popular singer Mika Singh recently revealed that interior designer Gauri Khan was responsible for designing his Mumbai home. In a candid conversation with Pinkvilla, Mika recalled his discussion with Shah Rukh Khan regarding hiring Gauri for the project. Mika shared that before Gauri took on the task, she had a strict condition—he was not to interfere with her decisions. Respecting her expertise, Mika did not visit the property, which happens to be his 99th house, for nearly two years while she worked on it.

Talking about his bond with Shah Rukh Khan, Mika described him as a "very kind" and "great friend." He added, "He is like my brother. He really loves me a lot even though I have done very few songs with him." When Mika requested Shah Rukh to ask Gauri to design his home, the superstar jokingly warned him about the high costs. "I requested him that please ask Gauri bhabhi to do the interiors. He said, 'Nahi yaar, bohot lootegi tumhe, bohot mehenga karegi.' Jaan bhoojh ke dara rahe the mujhe." (No man, she will make it very expensive. He was scaring me.) Mika insisted, "Paaji please," to which Shah Rukh replied, "Tu khud baat kar." (You talk to her yourself.)

Gauri Khan's Condition for Designing Mika's Home

After Mika spoke to Gauri, her team inspected the site, and she set her terms. "Gauri ma’am had one demand—whatever I do, you can’t question me," he recalled. Although Mika usually avoids green in his homes, Gauri introduced a green couch to the space.


"All my houses only have brown and beige. In the middle of this house, she added a green couch. It took her almost two years to do this, and I never questioned her. I didn’t even come and see it while she was working on it, but you can see the result of my patience. So once again, 'Thank you, Gauri bhabhi, for such a wonderful house,'" Mika said.

Mannat Undergoing Major Renovation

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are preparing for significant renovations at their iconic Mumbai residence, Mannat. Gauri, an acclaimed interior designer, has been closely overseeing the project since seeking approval from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) in November last year. The renovation involves adding two new floors to Mannat Annexe, expanding the total built-up area by 616.02 square meters.

With an estimated budget of Rs 25 crore, the project aims to modernize the home while preserving its heritage charm. The extensive renovation will span approximately one and a half to two years and includes upgraded interiors, enhanced security measures, and state-of-the-art facilities. Given Mannat’s Grade III heritage status, all modifications require official approval to ensure the structure's legacy remains intact.

Temporary Residence in Pali Hill

During the renovation, the Khan family has decided to relocate to an upscale residence in Mumbai’s elite Pali Hill area. Reports indicate that Shah Rukh Khan’s production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, has signed a leave and license agreement with film producer Vashu Bhagnani’s children, actor Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh, securing a temporary residence.

The family will be staying in the luxurious Puja Casa building, occupying four expansive floors of the high-end complex. Shah Rukh is reportedly paying Rs 24 lakh per month for the residence. According to a Hindustan Times report, "Each floor has one flat, and while it is not as spacious as Mannat, it provides enough space to accommodate his security personnel and other staff, ensuring a comfortable stay for the superstar and his family."

The apartment includes two lavish duplexes spanning the first, second, seventh, and eighth floors, offering ample privacy and space for the family to maintain their lifestyle. The lease is reportedly for three years, but it remains unclear if the family will stay for the entire duration or move back once the Mannat renovation is complete.
