The Microsoft Edge surf game is fun to play even when the internet connection is available.
Microsoft Edge surf game Get it for free: On Microsoft Edge Key highlight: Offers multiple game modes, addictive
Including a ‘mystery’ game inside a browser is not exactly a new concept. Google did it first with Chrome browser and now Microsoft has followed by launching a new surf game with the latest build 83 of its chromium-based Edge browser. The game is actually inspired by an almost 30-year-old classic. Dubbed as SkiFree, the game was launched as a part of Windows Entertainment Package 3, back in 1991.
The new game on Edge can be accessed either when internet connectivity is dead on your system or you can simply type ‘edge://surf’ and start playing the game. Well, we chose the second method to try this game and here’s what we have to say about it.
For starters, it is an endless surfing game where players need to surf through the water by avoiding islands, other surfers, obstacles and kraken. Players can surf for as long as they are in the endless ocean or until they waste all their lives in the game.
It’s an easter egg, which is meant to entertain people when the internet is not working, so don’t expect snazzy graphics or high-level gameplay. It is a 2D game with colourful pixelated graphics and definitely looks great compared to the black and white T-Rex game found inside Google Chrome.

The surf game in Microsoft Edge comes with three modes -- Endless mode, Time trial mode and Zigzag mode. We tested all the three modes and we really liked the Zig zag mode as it is refreshing as well as more complicated compared to the other two modes. In Zigzag mode, players need to surf through as many gates as they can to prevent their streak from getting reset. The Endless mode is straightforward where the main aim is to keep moving by dodging every obstacle on the way and try to score the maximum score.
The game also supports multiple input methods such as touch, keyboard, mouse and gamepads. Although we didn’t get the chance to play the game using controllers, we definitely tried playing it using mouse and keyboard and touch, and all of them worked as they should have. The character (surfer) in the game is quick to change directions and very responsive and there’s no lag as well.
The Edge surf game is fun to play even when the internet connection is available or just to take a small break between those deadlines and presentations. Unfortunately, it took us a couple of hours before we decided to close the window and start working again.

iOS 13.3 also comes with another minor update. It allows users to control when they want to see Memojis and Animojis.
In Settings > General > Keyboard, you can now turn off Animoji and Memoji Stickers from being displayed on the emoji keyboard.
For the uninitiated, Animojis are 3D, animated emojis that transform familiar emojis to animated messages. Memojis, on the other hand, are personalised Animojis, akin to Snapchat’s Bitomji, that look exactly like the user.
