PUNE: Reaffirming its commitment towards the Indian market and giving a boost to the the ' Make in India' programme, Mercedes-Benz on Thursday launched the locally made GLC. This comes just four months after the SUV made its India debut.

Speaking at the launch, Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, reiterated that the auto major had India on its priority. He also emphasised the momentum that the brand has seen in the country in the last decade.

"We began local production of our cars in 1995 with the E-Class. From then on, it has been a wonderful journey for us and I can proudly say that our cars produced here give us immense satisfaction. Localisation has helped us in cutting costs and deliver on boosting local resources. We now have nine models which have been produced from our plant here in Pune," Folger said.

India is the first market outside the United States to locally produce the Mercedes SUV.

The car boasts of the lightest body-shell in its segment.
