Men outdo women when it comes to fake reading

Fakespeare Survey 2014 spills some dirty secrets about the reading habits of the average Indian. The pan-India online survey quizzed approximately 1,000 respondents. Among those who admitted to fake reading in public to impress, 24.2 per cent were men and 15.7 per cent women. Here is the breakdown of the habits of India’s ‘literary tricksters’.

3 in 10 admitted to lying about having read a book.

23% would fake reading to impress a potential partner.

25.82% of Indians choose economics and finance related books to fake, the reason being that it makes them appear more intelligent.

12.6% men and 7% women have agreed to purchase books as a fashion accessory simply to complete their look.

27.55% respondents would choose airport lobbies to fake-read followed by 25.98% who would fib in a coffee shop.

21.87% of respondents would choose Classic English Literature to pretend reading.
