Meghan Markle’s strained relationship with her father, Thomas Markle Sr., has come under fresh attention following serious allegations against him. The developments have also raised questions about whether the Duchess of Sussex and her father could ever repair their relationship. However, there is no indication that Meghan is considering a reconciliation. She has made it clear that keeping her father away from her children was a decision taken to protect them.

Why Is Thomas Markle Facing An Investigation?

Thomas Markle, 82, is being investigated in the Philippines after his son, Thomas Markle Jr., allegedly reported finding images of child sexual abuse at his father's former home in Cebu. According to reports, Thomas Jr. handed over electronic devices and other material to the authorities. Investigators are examining the material as part of their inquiry.

Thomas Sr. has strongly denied the allegations. He has described them as lies and said that the computers had been outside his control. He has also said he would welcome an investigation. As of October 30, Philippine authorities have obtained a search warrant for the devices and material. However, investigators have not announced any decision to file charges. The allegations have not been proven.

What Has Meghan Markle Said About Her Father?

Meghan issued a rare public statement on October 23, saying she was "deeply distressed" by the allegations and expressing concern for any children who may have been harmed. She also explained why she had remained distant from her father and prevented him from meeting her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Meghan said a letter containing troubling allegations against Thomas had been sent to London's Metropolitan Police in 2019 and was later shared with her. She said authorities had assured her that the matter was being investigated. Reports have also suggested that Meghan sent her father a letter in 2025, telling him he would not meet his grandchildren. The reported letter was sent while he was recovering from an emergency leg amputation in the Philippines.

Could Meghan And Thomas Markle Reconcile?

The latest developments have renewed discussion about the possibility of a family reconciliation. However, Meghan's public comments have focused on child safety and the need for justice, not rebuilding her relationship with her father. Her half-brother, Thomas Jr., has also apologised for previously supporting their father during the family's long-running estrangement. He reportedly said he now regretted his earlier position. For now, any possibility of reconciliation remains uncertain. The immediate focus is on the ongoing investigation and the authorities' efforts to establish the facts.
