Bengaluru Man Balances Auto Driving and Table Tennis Coaching
A Bengaluru auto-rickshaw driver has captured the internet’s attention for his inspiring journey of resilience and dedication. Gurumurthy N, once a full-time table tennis coach for Karnataka’s state team, now juggles his job as an auto driver while continuing to train aspiring players. His story went viral after it was shared on LinkedIn by HR professional Gayatri Gopakumar, who was deeply moved by her unexpected encounter with him.

A Chance Encounter That Went Viral

Gayatri recounted her experience in a LinkedIn post, highlighting Gurumurthy’s professionalism, patience, and passion. “This chance meeting reminded me that we can wear multiple caps with excellence! Mr. Gurumurthy’s story is a testament to the fact that our professions don’t define us, and we can pursue our passions with dedication and hard work,” she wrote.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Gurumurthy worked as a professional table tennis coach, training Karnataka’s state-level players. However, the pandemic disrupted his career, forcing him to take up driving an auto-rickshaw to sustain his livelihood. Despite this setback, he did not give up on his love for coaching and continues to train interested players in Bengaluru.

A Coach On Wheels

Inside his auto, a poster placed in front of the passenger’s seat immediately stands out. It reads: “I am a professional TT coach. Please share my contact number with anyone who wants to get trained in TT. Individuals, clubs, apartment clubhouses, schools. Thank you.”

Recognizing his dedication, Gayatri shared his contact details on LinkedIn and urged parents and individuals to reach out to him for training. Her post quickly gained traction, drawing widespread appreciation. Many users praised Gurumurthy’s resilience and encouraged Bengaluru residents to support him.

The post has received over 200 likes and numerous shares, with people lauding Gurumurthy’s perseverance. “It truly highlights the remarkable resilience and versatility individuals like Mr. Gurumurthy possess,” wrote one user. Another comment urged parents to enroll their children for training after their academic exams.
