Former all-rounder Roger Binny is reportedly all set to replace Sourav Ganguly as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Binny played a vital role in securing India’s victory at the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
Here’s what we know about the rather enigmatic former cricket star who prefers to keep a low profile.
He was born on July 19, 1955 in Bengaluru and is of Scottish descent. He is the first Anglo-Indian to play for the Indian cricket team at the international level.
Binny made his ODI debut on December 6, 1980, against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground. He made his test debut on November 21, 1979, against Pakistan at Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy Stadium.
He has played 99 international matches for India and scored 1459 runs while picking 124 wickets.

He played a key role in India’s first World Cup victory at the 1983 Cricket World Cup held in England and Wales. He was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with a total of 18 wickets.
He was also instrumental in helping the Indian team win in the 1985 World Series Cricket Championship held in Australia. This time around as well he was the leading wicket taker with 17 wickets to his name.
In his 27 test matches, Binny took 47 wickets and scored 230 runs, while in 72 ODIs he picked 77 wickets.
He acted as coach for the Bengal team in the Ranji Trophy. He had also been a part of the Karnataka State Cricket Association. He was also the coach of India’s successful Under-19 World Cup-winning side of 2000. He has trained current super stars of cricket like Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif.

He has been serving as a member of the selection panel of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since 2012.
He has a son and two daughters. His son Stuart Binny is also an Indian cricketer. His daughter-in-law Mayanti Langer is a noted sports journalist.
