Jeeva comes from a family of musicians. His grandfather’s dreams were thwarted by a rigid social order, his father’s dreams by the harsh realities of life. Now Jeeva must carry the weight of that history, and his own shortcomings. Can he succeed where earlier generations could not?

Moving between different periods of Madras and the modern day, the film traces the changing journey of independent music. Jeeva must find a way to protect Gaana’s distinctive sound while pushing it towards a wider audience. His close friend Harshath and the women who support him play important roles in that journey.
