Masters of the Universe OTT release date confirmed: When and where to watch live-action adaptation of the He-Man franchise

After its run in theatres, Masters of the Universe is now ready for its digital release. The live-action reboot of the much-loved Mattel franchise, starring Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, is heading to Prime Video this month. Fans who could not catch the fantasy action film in cinemas, or those planning to revisit the adventure, will soon be able to stream it from home.

The film arrived in theatres worldwide on June 5 and is now making a quick move to OTT, bringing the latest version of one of pop culture's most recognised heroes to a wider audience.

When and where to watch Masters of the Universe

Masters of the Universe will begin streaming exclusively on Prime Video from July 22.


The streaming release was confirmed through the film's official social media pages. Sharing a promotional video, the announcement read, "Listen Up! Watch Masters of the Universe – July 22 on Prime Video."

The OTT release comes less than two months after the film's theatrical debut and gives viewers another chance to experience the live-action adaptation.

What is Masters of the Universe about?

Directed by Travis Knight, the film revisits the world of Eternia through a new live-action story inspired by Mattel's iconic Masters of the Universe franchise.

The story follows Prince Adam, who has spent years away from his home world and living on Earth. His life changes when the legendary Sword of Power calls him back to Eternia, where the kingdom is facing the threat of Skeletor. Adam must finally embrace his destiny as He-Man and fight to protect his people with the help of trusted allies including Teela and Duncan, also known as Man-at-Arms.

The official synopsis states: "A young man on Earth discovers a fabulous secret legacy as the prince of an alien planet and must recover a magic sword and return home to protect his kingdom."

The film blends fantasy, action and adventure while introducing the classic characters to a new generation of viewers.

Cast and creative team

Nicholas Galitzine plays Prince Adam/He-Man, while Jared Leto takes on the role of the villain Skeletor. The ensemble cast also includes Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, James Purefoy as King Randor, Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena and Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress.

The screenplay is credited to Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee and David Callaham. The film is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Studios, with producers Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner and DeVon Franklin.

The latest film marks only the second live-action adaptation of the franchise. The first Masters of the Universe movie, led by Dolph Lundgren, was released in 1987, making this a return to live-action nearly four decades later.
