Comparisons have also been drawn with Border 2, which registered a massive Rs 30 crore opening on its first day. In comparison, Mardaani 3 clearly falls short.

The slightly modest box office figures are being linked to the film’s dark theme and hard-hitting storytelling. Unlike typical commercial releases, Mardaani 3 deals with sensitive issues and maintains a serious tone throughout, which may limit its mass appeal.
