A seventy-year-old flower seller from Mangalore walked into KMC cardiologist Dr P Kamath’s OPD carrying two things that instantly caught his attention: a sling supporting her injured shoulder and a bag filled with spinach leaves from her home garden. What happened next turned an ordinary hospital visit into a moment that stayed with him long after.

Dr Kamath shared on X that she is recovering from a shoulder dislocation while also dealing with IVDP and ischemic heart disease, conditions that make even simple movements painful. Despite all of this, she arrived with a wide smile and a bundle of freshly grown spinach as her personal gesture of gratitude.

Her right arm was still in a sling, yet she insisted on bringing something for the doctor who had been treating her. Dr Kamath wrote that the trust and affection shown by patients like her remind him why medicine remains such a deeply meaningful profession for him.

Internet reacts

The story struck a deep chord online, and people poured in with heartfelt reactions. One person said it was a reminder that healing is often a two-way journey, where a patient’s courage and a doctor’s care create something far bigger than medicine — a real human bond. Another pointed out how precious such gestures are, noting that she probably brought the best spinach she had because she wanted her doctor to stay healthy too. According to the user, this kind of gratitude can’t be bought and comes only from simple, pure-hearted people.

Someone else wrote that the moment brought tears to their eyes, comparing her offering to a child sharing a half-eaten chocolate or a devotee placing a small gift before God. Others praised Dr Kamath as well, saying the world survives on humble souls like her and compassionate doctors like him. Another user summed it up beautifully, calling it pure love and a memory any doctor would cherish for life.
