Soori's Tamil sports action movie Mandaadi finally arrived in theatres on Thursday, September 10. According to Sacnilk, Mandaadi earned Rs 4.75 crore in India net on Day 1 from 2,953 shows. Its India gross collection stood at around Rs 5.55 crore.

The film also recorded an overseas gross of approximately Rs 1 crore. This took its reported worldwide gross collection to Rs 6.55 crore on its opening day.

The numbers will be closely watched in the coming days as the Soori-starrer attempts to build momentum through its first weekend. The film's performance in the coming days will also determine how strongly it continues its theatrical run before eventually arriving on Netflix.

Mandaadi story, cast and crew

Mandaadi is set against the backdrop of a traditional sailboat race in South India. The film does not simply use the sporting event as a visual setting. Instead, the race becomes the centre of a rivalry involving teams led by Kaali and Saattaappuli.

The competition on the water drives much of the story, while the personal conflicts and stakes of the characters add to the drama. Soori leads the film as the titular character, with Suhas and Mahima Nambiar playing key roles.
