Man burns Yeezys worth Rs 12 lakh to protest against rapper Kanye West’s anti-Semitic remarks

Popular American rapper, Kanye West, seems to be the most hated celebrity on the planet right now. The ‘Gold Digger’ singer kicked the hornet’s nest recently after he was spotted wearing a shirt with ‘White Lives Matter’ inscribed on it. The phrase was popularised by white supremacist groups in a response to the Black Lives Matter movement.

It does not end here, the singer has also angered fans with his anti-Semitic comments that were made in the recent weeks. Following his comments, several brands had dropped West from endorsement deals.

Now, a new video has surfaced on the Internet showing a man burning Yeezy shoes which is a collaboration between the record producer and Adidas brand. The new video seems to come at time when the premium sportswear brand announced ending its partnership with West. Incidentally, the partnership between the two parties is worth USD 1.3 billion according to Forbes.


Sneakers brand Nice Kicks shared a video where a pairs of Yeezy shoes were set on fire. According to the post, a resident of Florida, US, set ablaze the Yeezy shoes to protest against the anti-Semitic comments made by the rapper.
According to a report on NBC Miami, the man has been identified as Danny Shiff. Shiff burned two pairs of Yeezys worth USD 15,000 (about Rs 12.36 lakh) in protest.

In the aftermath of his comments, West’s documentary on himself got shelved, and he has been dropped by his talent agency, brands such as Balenciaga and JP Morgan.

Earlier this month, West took to his Twitter account and shared a post which read, “going death con 3 On Jewish People’. The singer later said that he was not anti-Semitic as according to him black people were also Jews.

West in a subsequent tweet said that he was being targeted over his stand. "You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda,” West had tweeted. The singer had also accused record producer Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs of being controlled by ‘Jewish people’ in a post on Instagram.

Following his comments, the rapper has been restricted on Twitter and Instagram.
