Nalini was once one of the most sought-after actresses in the film industry. She made her film debut at 16, playing a small role in director P Chandrakumar’s Ithile Vannavar. Then, Nalini forayed into Tamil cinema with Idavela (1982), where the actress played the female lead for the first time. After a series of flops, Nalini found her footing in South India with director T Rajendar’s Uyirullavarai Usha (1983). At the peak of her career, Nalini eloped with actor Ramarajan and married him. But their 12 years of marital bliss ended due to an astrological prediction.

Nalini-Ramarajan marriage facilitated by MGR

As per a report by The Indian Express, Ramarajan was an up-and-coming actor back then. He and Nalini fell in love and the duo tied the knot in 1987. Although Nalini’s mother and her brothers were opposed to the marriage, it was former Tamil Nadu CM MG Ramachandran (MGR) who offered the couple refuge, facilitating their marriage.

Nalini had an extraordinary career before marriage, having worked with Mammootty in Snehamulla Simham (1986) and opposite Mohanlal in Bhoomiyile Rajakkanmar (1987). But after her wedding, she quit films and eventually embraced motherhood, welcoming 2 children - Aruna and Arun.

Why Nalini parted ways with Ramarajan

But Nalini and Ramarajan parted ways in 2000 after they heard a shocking astrological prediction. According to The Indian Express, the couple strongly believed in astrology. So when an astrologer told them that if the couple remained together, either Ramarajan or their kids would die, the pair were left with no option but to separate. The children started living with Nalini.

Nalini was a part of a diverse range of movies including Aavanazhi (1986), Vartha (1986), Yaar (1985), Santhosha Kanavukal (1985), Geethanjali (1985), and December Pookkal (1986). She made her comeback to the world of glitz and glam with projects like Ravanaprabhu (2001), Jayam (2003), Sukran (2005), Thillalangadi (2010), Singam 3 (2017), Sathya (2017), Aranmanai 3 (2021), and Youth (2026).
