Malaysian sex blogger sentenced over FB pork post in 2013

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian woman known for her ties to a sexually explicit blog was handed a suspended six-month jail sentence on Friday for posting a Ramadan greeting on Facebook in 2013 that showed her and a former partner eating pork.

Vivian Lee and former blogging partner Alvin Tan were charged in 2013 under the Sedition Act for uploading the photo that sparked outrage in the Muslim-majority nation.

Following the sentencing Judge Abdul Rashid Daud granted Lee a stay pending an appeal, The Star Online reported.

Tan did not appear in court and is believed to be living in the United States.

Lee and Tan, once a promising law student at the National University of Singapore (NUS), sparked an earlier round of controversy in 2012 for a sexually explicit blog they published called "Sumptuous Erotica".

In it the couple posted erotic photographs and videos of them having sex, as well as close-ups of their genitals - and despite an outcry remained unrepentant, claiming they had done no wrong.

Pornography is illegal in Singapore and Malaysia, with even men's magazines like Playboy and Penthouse banned.
