TMC MP Mahua Moitra (L)
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra recently raised a complaint against Swiggy, the popular food delivery service, after receiving spoiled ice creams. On the evening of January 16, Moitra took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her frustration, tagging Swiggy and sharing her disappointment with the delivery service.

The Complaint: Spoiled Ice Creams and Rs 1,220 Bill

Moitra had ordered ten Minus Thirty mini sticks ice creams, paying a total of Rs 1,220. However, upon receiving her order, the ice creams were inedible due to spoilage. In her tweet, the MP wrote, "Sorry Swiggy - you’ve got to up your game. Unacceptable that I ordered expensive Minus Thirty mini sticks ice cream & it arrives spoilt and inedible. Expecting a refund or replacement ASAP."

Swiggy’s customer service team responded swiftly, asking for her order number to resolve the issue. In response, Moitra shared the details of her purchase, which revealed the amount she had spent on the spoilt ice creams.

Social Media Reactions: Humor and Criticism

The incident quickly gained attention on social media, with many users commenting on the complaint. Some humorously referenced Moitra’s previous controversies, including a widely discussed incident involving an expensive handbag. Moitra herself joined in the jest, humorously stating that the ice creams were “Hermes flavour with Bobbi Brown topping.”

However, Moitra also addressed the trolling she received. She responded directly to a comment, saying, “Just because I am an MP doesn’t mean I am not a normal person who orders food online. Please get over this mindset that public reps are not normal beings."

The complaint also sparked a broader discussion about customer experiences with food delivery services. Many users shared their own frustrations, particularly with the challenges of getting refunds from online platforms. One user shared, “Happened to me twice with Minus Thirty orders. It’s frustrating, but I understand the challenges with frozen deliveries.” Another advised, “Never ever order something which melts in a few minutes. Exceptional cases when the dark store is just beside you and have no traffic issues.”

Moitra’s post quickly garnered attention, amassing over 320K views. While some criticized her for raising the issue on social media instead of using the Swiggy app, she responded, “Because it wasn’t.” The debate around delivery platforms and the quality of service continues, with customers calling for improvements to the handling and delivery of frozen items.
