Vishal’s latest film Magudam is now moving to its next phase after its theatrical run. According to a report by Pinkvilla, the makers have locked September 11 as the OTT release date. The film is expected to be available in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, giving it a wider digital reach than its original theatrical release.

For viewers who were waiting for the film to arrive on streaming, September 11 is therefore the date to keep in mind. The digital premiere also gives the action drama an opportunity to find an audience beyond those who watched it in theatres.

What is Magudam about?

The story revolves around Vishal’s characters and the complicated relationship between a father and his son. One of his characters is Kirubakaran, known as Kiruba, who has chosen a relatively peaceful life away from the violent world associated with his father.

Vishal also plays Don Lingappa, or Linga, a powerful gangster. The story takes a darker turn after Kiruba suffers a devastating personal loss involving his wife and daughter. The tragedy pulls him back towards violence and revenge, eventually bringing him closer to his estranged father.

The film moves between different timelines while exploring the relationship between the two characters. Alongside the emotional conflict, the story uses gang rivalry, betrayal and revenge to drive the action.

Vishal's directorial debut and cast

Magudam is a significant film in Vishal’s career because he stepped into the director’s role while continuing to play the lead. The project had originally been associated with filmmaker Ravi Arasu, who is credited with the story. Vishal later took over the direction after creative differences, according to reports about the film’s production.

Dushara Vijayan and Anjali play the female leads. The supporting cast includes John Vijay, Jayaprakash, Thambi Ramaiah, Ajay, Vamsi Krishna, Abu Salim, Arjai, VJ Jhansi, Padam Kumar and Sabumon, among others.
