Magnus Carlsen, the world’s best chess player, is right up on top of another sport too: Fantasy football. The Norwegian has amassed 1,159 points this year, and though he attributed it to luck over anything else, it does place him on top of a field comprising seven million enthusiasts.
So pleased was he after yet another high-scoring day on Sunday that he updated his Twitter bio: “World Chess Champion. The highest ranked chess player in the world. Current ( live) #1 Fantasy Premier League player.”

But success in fantasy football isn’t anything new for him. In the 2017-18 season too, he had finished in the top 3,000.
Speaking to Norwegian media, Carlsen had said earlier: “In chess, you know when you’ve done well and when you’ve done poorly, but it’s hard for me to take praise for fantasy league, when I’ve just been lucky.”
