Madhavan admits that he has never been ‘normal’: ‘I’ve got my nose bashed in for…’

In an interview with Rediff, actor Madhavan, while talking about his new film GDN, once opened up about how he almost had his nose bashed. He opened up about how he broke his jaw to play aerospace scientist Nambi Narayanan in the 2022 critically acclaimed film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect; he also spoke about how he tried to keep things in his latest film, GDN, more realistic while still ensuring the movie remained entertaining.

When asked why he is shying away from doing ‘fun films’ and romancing girls half his age, the witty star quipped that he had never done anything normal. “When did I ever do anything normal? I've got my nose bashed in for doing abnormal stuff all the time…” he revealed.

Madhavan also spoke about how he is a deft hand in engineering. The actor, who has a degree in Electronics, said, "I'm a BSc Electronics guy. I'm an engineering fan. I understand everything about engineering but never got an opportunity to get an engineering degree. I am a damn good engineer.”

Directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar and co-written by R Madhavan, *GDN* is a biographical film based on the remarkable journey of GD Naidu, the celebrated Indian inventor often hailed as the “Edison of India”. The movie features a star-studded ensemble cast, including Sathyaraj, Jayaram, Priyamani, Dushara Vijayan, Aditi Balan, Vinay Rai, Karunakaran and Thambi Ramaiah.

The film, however, received a muted response from audiences upon its theatrical release. As reported by Koimoi.com, *GDN* began its box office journey with a collection of only **₹0.53 crore** on the opening day. The film picked up pace over the weekend, recording better numbers on Saturday and Sunday. This helped it close its first weekend with a domestic net collection of ₹2.69 crore

The momentum did not last long, as the film experienced a gradual decline in earnings during the remainder of its opening week. With collections dropping steadily on subsequent days, *GDN* managed to accumulate **₹4.31 crore net** in India by the conclusion of its first week. Its corresponding gross collection stood at around **₹5.09 crore**.
