Made-in-India wedding anniversary for Prince William & Kate: Taj Mahal, Kaziranga

Just days ahead of their fifth wedding anniversary, Prince William and Kate Middleton are expected to visit the monument of love, the Taj Mahal, during their visit to India and Bhutan from April 10-16.

While the royal itinerary is still to be hammered out, the short trip is said to include a Mumbai stopover, where they plan to visit charities that work with Dharavi slums and particularly street children. It is rumoured that apart from visiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, the two will also take a safari through Kaziranga national park. Unfortunately, those cute photoops are ruled out as two-year-old Prince George and 10-month-old Princess Charlotte will not be accompanying the royal couple.

The British tabloids are hoping for a happier visit for Will and Kate than the one that his parents Prince Charles and Lady Diana took in 1992. A few months and plenty speculation after the infamous picture of a solitary Diana at the Taj Mahal, the couple announced their separation. Charles and Camilla visited India in 2013, skipping the Taj in their nine-day tour, but enjoying Kerala’s backwaters. The two were also the guests of honour at a party thrown by Mukesh and Nita Ambani.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge come on the heels of Prince Harry, who is visiting Nepal on March 20-23, reportedly because he was moved by stories of resilience following the 2015 earthquakes.
