To break WFH monotony, Priti Rathi Gupta, LXME founder, likes to change up her seating, lighting and background music.

A fluid workspace is Priti Rathi Gupta’s secret to working from home efficiently. “My work from home space is not tightly structured. I have the option of various seating styles, visuals and lighting setups that have taken away the monotony of a usual working day. Everything right from the greenery outside my windows to the art on the walls is a luxury for the eyes,” she says.

Her biggest joy while working from home is the background music she chooses. “From meditative music, to pop and Bollywood, there’s a genre to suit every mood,” she adds.

Out of the box
Mumbai-based Gupta has been working from home for eight months now and while it took a little getting used to, it’s opened up many possibilities. “I find the walls of ‘in the box’ thinking dissolving,” she says. “It’s strange how we always considered meetings and seminars as a must-do in person. (With WFH) We have been able to restructure and redesign the entire organisational work pol icy, which has resulted in efficiencies that we could never have imagined pre-COVID.”

Gupta is careful to separate work and leisure, except in one area — taking work calls in her building’s landscaped garden. “One of my favourite things is to step down for a quick stroll every couple of hours, especially when doing long calls. It has made work from home seem so deliciously enviable and worked wonders for my fitness,” she says.

Time saved
Because of the time she’s saving by not commuting, Gupta has had the chance to focus on her hobbies. “I have been able to find a lot of time for learning, connecting with loved ones and on my other passion, f i lm-making.” She has also managed to carve out extra time for cooking and listening to podcasts by altering her social media usage, thanks to the eye-opening show The Social Dilemma. Extra time now spent with her teenaged son is precious. “Sharing his world view fills my mind and heart with energy and hope,” she says.

“I have fine-tuned my baking skills. Although my wife Benaisha and I aren’t vegan, the rest of the house is. So, during the lockdown, vegan baking took centrestage. Benaisha makes the best chocolate mousse cake. It’s made with dates, almond flour and coconut milk — it’s a huge hit. I find baking therapeutic. It’s a precise activity where the outcome is as perfect as the work that goes into it. If you follow the instructions, the end result is good. I love that.”
