Luxe expert Steve Odell recommends a trip to the Arctic - and he has his reasons!
Steve Odell, senior vice president Asia Pacific for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH), brushes with luxe living every day. NCLH is the world’s third largest cruise operator and it’s even fit for royalty — one of their ships boasts of Princess Charlene of Monaco as its godmother.

What is your idea of luxury?

My favourite is Aman Resorts. They give you polished service. The word ‘no’ doesn’t exist. It’s exclusive, private and you’re with a like-minded crowd. Comfort is paramount across their properties and I have been privileged to stay at many of them. My favourites have been their hotels at Bhutan and Bali.

I love New Zealand for its beauty. I also did a trip to the Arctic, a really unique experience. It was a 10-day expedition cruise, you didn’t see any people or cruise ships. It was all about wildlife — we were tracking polar bears and we saw schools of walruses. All their heads were bobbing around us. It cannot be compared.

What are the brands you enjoy wearing?

Prada for shoes. For suits, I buy Herringbone & Sui. My favourite watch brand is Officine Panerai.

What is the most prized possession in your wardrobe?
It would be a pair of cufflinks with Filipino south sea pearls, given to me by my partner for our wedding anniversary.

What is the best treasure you have found in the ocean?
The solitude and beauty. When you’re standing on your verandah with no one around and all you can see is the sea and the golden rays of the sun on the water, it’s magical. It’s a good way to connect with nature.
