JioHotstar’s recent South Unbound event gave audiences a glimpse into the platform’s growing focus on South content, with several films and series lined up for release in 2026. Among the titles that drew attention was Lucky The Superstar, a Tamil web film headlined by GV Prakash Kumar and Anaswara Rajan. The movie is all set for its digital release this month.

Streaming details of Lucky The Superstar

In the second update on the film, the streaming platform has now confirmed that Lucky The Superstar will premiere on February 20. The movie will skip a theatrical release and head directly to OTT, where it will be available for streaming on JioHotstar via OTTplay Premium. The film will also be released simultaneously in multiple major languages, widening its reach across regional audiences.



Directed by Uday Mahesh, who is widely recognised for his portrayal of Chellam in Raj and DK’s popular series The Family Man, Lucky The Superstar marks his return to the spotlight as a filmmaker. According to the makers, the film is centred on a lost puppy whose unexpected presence begins to influence the lives of people it encounters. Rather than focusing on spectacle, the story leans into emotion, warmth, and simple human connections.

The narrative follows the puppy, named Lucky, as it moves from one situation to another, quietly transforming its surroundings. From helping a child recover emotionally to mending a fractured family, Lucky’s journey is said to create a chain reaction of change.

Interestingly, the story is also expected to touch upon broader social and political ripples, all driven by the innocent actions of the puppy. The makers have described the film as a heartwarming tale created primarily to entertain children and family audiences, while still offering moments that adults can connect with.

GV Prakash Kumar, who continues to balance acting and music across industries, plays the lead role in the film. He is joined by Anaswara Rajan, who has been steadily building her presence in Tamil cinema. The ensemble cast also includes Devadarshini, Panchu Arunachalam, Kovai Sarala, Elango Kumaravel, Namo Narayan, Daniel, Madhusudhan Rao, and others. Music for the film has been composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab, while editing is handled by Kishore.


Lucky The Superstar forms part of JioHotstar’s expanding South Indian content slate. The platform is also backing big projects such as Kaattan, a rural action drama series starring Vijay Sethupathi and directed by Manikandan, expected to premiere later this year.
