The incident has now brought attention to the rappers' earlier dispute, which played out publicly on social media in 2024.
What happened to Lucki at ComplexCon?
A video of around 14 seconds shows Lucki wearing a camouflage jacket while being walked by security towards a black luxury car. A crowd can be seen gathered around him, while blood appears to be visible around his neck.Other footage circulating online shows groups of people involved in a confrontation and appears to show Carti in the vicinity. However, there is no confirmation that Carti personally took part in the incident or ordered anyone to attack Lucki.
Several reports described the incident as a stabbing or slashing. AllHipHop's correspondent reportedly witnessed the alleged attack, while other hip-hop accounts also linked the confrontation to Carti's entourage.
However, police, health officials and ComplexCon organisers had not confirmed the nature or severity of Lucki's injuries. It was also unclear where exactly the confrontation took place or what caused it.
Why is Lucki and Playboi Carti's past dispute?
The two rappers had already been involved in a public dispute in 2024.According to Revolt, the issue began after Lucki posted a photograph of a chain with the caption “Crossed up”. Carti reportedly took the post as a reference to his own imagery, particularly after releasing “All Red”, which features a reference to an upside-down cross tattoo.
Lucki later addressed the issue on Instagram and denied that he was trying to diss Carti.
“Like I said from the jump, I don't dislike you. You think yesterday ‘cause I bought a chain and I said, 'Crosses up' that I was sneak dissing you ‘cause you made a song that said, 'Upside down cross tat on my neck,’ but it wasn't that though, I just bought a chain and was saying ‘Crosses up.' You just insecure because you don't love Jesus like that.”
Lucki also shared old DMs between himself and Carti from 2023, appearing to show the two having a more positive interaction before their dispute.
What did Carti say at the time?
Carti also appeared to respond around the same period.According to HotNewHipHop, Carti was filmed speaking in a parking lot in September 2024. While discussing his music, including his collaboration “Timeless” with The Weeknd, he also appeared to address people he considered rivals.
“Should've signed to the O. I ain't worried bout nobody,” Carti said.
“Say whatever they wanna say about me,” he added.
The “O” referred to Opium Records, Carti's label.
The exchange between the two rappers appeared to die down after Lucki's explanation, but their past dispute has resurfaced following the ComplexCon incident.
Carti's role at ComplexCon
Carti has a major role at this year's ComplexCon. He is serving as one of the event's artistic directors alongside Japanese designer Hiroshi Fujiwara and his Fragment Design brand. The 10th anniversary edition of ComplexCon is being held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, with concerts taking place at nearby Crypto.com Arena. It is the festival's first edition in Los Angeles after previous editions in Long Beach and Las Vegas.
Lucki was also expected to perform at the event, while Carti is headlining the final night.
The alleged confrontation has also raised questions about security at the festival. ComplexCon's website says the event has a “strict zero tolerance policy” on weapons. Organisers have said their safety plans involve the venue, corporate security and law enforcement, with both uniformed and undercover officers present.
