Lovlina Borgohain becomes World Champion! PM Modi, Anand Mahindra, Abhishek Bachchan heap praises on Assam boxer

The Olympic medallist Assam boxer won her maiden World Championships gold after two bronze wins.

The 25-year-old boxer defeated Australian boxer Caitlin Parker by 5-2 to take the top prize in the 75 kg category and win her first-ever World Championship gold medal.
Indians across the world are currently in celebration mode as Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain marked a power-packed return on Sunday by bagging the World Champion title at the Women's World Boxing Championships.

The 25-year-old boxer defeated Australian boxer Caitlin Parker by 5-2 to take the top prize in the 75 kg category and win her first-ever World Championship gold medal.

Lovlina's achievements received praise from many people on social networking platforms including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan and others.


The Prime Minister of India took to his official Twitter account to heap praises on Borgohain for her stupendous feat.

"Congratulations @LovlinaBorgohai for her stupendous feat at the Boxing World Championships. She showed great skill. India is delighted by her winning the Gold medal," PM Modi tweeted.
The Olympic medallist Assam boxer won her maiden World Championships gold after two bronze wins. The 25-year-old has won three bronze medals at marquee events, including two at the World Championships and one at the Tokyo Olympics.

Indian industrialist Anand Mahindra also congratulated the boxer and praised woman-power. "Another ‘close encounter of the Gold kind!’ No need now just to talk about woman-power. It was all on display at the IBA Women’s World Cup," Mahindra tweeted.
This gold holds many deeper meanings and also feels emotional as it comes after Borgohain announced her return to the big stage after facing some dark weather. Meanwhile, Nikhat Zareen bagged the gold in the 50kg category by defeating Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam.

Indian politician and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Jagat Prakash Nadda said that Borgohain's passion, hard work and focus has made India proud.

"Congratulations to Lovlina Borgohain on her spectacular win at the Women's World Boxing Championships in the 75 kg category! Your passion, hard work, and focus have made all of us proud! Keep inspiring and shining!," Nadda tweeted.
Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan congratulated Zareer and Borgohain for adding two more gold medals to India's rich haul.

It's a big moment for Lovlina, who has had a roller coaster of a year and a half. The Assam boxer, who prefers to keep a low profile, was pushed to the spotlight ever since she won the bronze at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Neeraj Chopra also shared hearty congratulations to Indian women who dominated the World Boxing Championships.

Emotional Borgohain took to Twitter to express her excitement on bagging the World Champion crown. The Assam boxer thanked her parents for being her pillar of support.

"Extremely happy to win my third medal at the World Boxing Championship. After winning two Bronze medals in a row, I am happy to convert the colour of my medal to Gold this year. I am grateful to everyone who has been a part of this beautiful journey," Borgohain tweeted alongside pictures of her holding the coveted title.

The prestigious event, with a massive prize pool of INR 20 crore, witnessed the participation of 324 boxers, including several Olympic medallists, from 65 countries fighting for the titles in the 12 weight categories.
