Loved ‘Drishyam 2’? These 4 edgy thrillers will keep you glued to your seat

‘Drishyam 2’ was released on November 18, to rave reviews. The Ajay Devgn-Tabu starrer also turned out to be one of the most successful Bollywood movies of the year and minted Rs 15.38 crore on the first day. It is touted to be the film with the third-highest day-one collections just after ‘Brahmastra’ and ‘Sooryavanshi’.

The audience just can’t get enough of the hair-raising thriller which picks up seven years after where ‘Drishyam’ left off. The film’s protagonist Vijay Salgaonkar is now an aspiring movie producer. He appears wealthier and more confident in his outlook. But he is still determined to keep his family from the clutches of Meera Deshmukh, a former inspector who is still hell-bent on seeking revenge from the Salgaonkar family as she believes they are responsible for the death of her son Sam.

‘Andhadhun’

Also starring the ever-reliable powerhouse of talent Tabu along with an effortless Ayushmann Khurrana, this Sriram Raghavan directorial is deliciously dark as well as hilariously funny. The hair-raising thriller gradually builds momentum and keeps you on the edge of your seat with one shocking twist after the other.

The movie centres around Akash Saraf an up-and-coming pianist who fakes being blind to improve his skills. However, he ends up witnessing a murder. The rest of the movie revolves around a dangerous cat-and-mouse game he plays with Simi, the wife of a slain actor, and how he escapes unscathed… or does he? Watch to find out!

‘Kaun’

As they say old is gold. Had this RGV (Ram Gopal Verma) classic been released on Netflix today, it sure would have been an instant hit. The movie revolves around an unnamed young woman (Urmila Matondkar) who is alone in a huge manor. She comes to know that a serial killer is on the loose. Then a drenched stranger (Manoj Bajpai) shows up, who claims he had been called by the owner of the house Mr. Malhotra….

Released in 1999, this thriller was groundbreaking for its time. The movie had a water-tight screenplay, no songs, no A-list stars apart from Matondkar (who puts up a performance of a lifetime).

In the end, there are three dead bodies and one killer who grins maniacally and waits for the next victim. Do give it a watch. We promise you won’t regret it.

‘Raat Akeli Hai’

If you love a good whodunnit you will love this Nawazuddin Siddiqui-Radhika Apte starrer. The story follows the journey of a small-time cop who is summoned to investigate the death of an elderly family member. If you like traditional crime stories which unfold slowly with clues scattered all around and reveal the killer’s identity at the end you will love this flick. The performances from Siddiqui, Apte, and the supporting cast are just the cherry on top.

'Baishe Srabon'

This 2011 Bengali crime-thriller had it all, a ruthless serial killer, a whole list of characters who kept you guessing who might be the mastermind behind the gruesome murders, a breathless cat and mouse game between an earnest police officer and the murderer. Released in 2011, this Srijit Mukherji movie remains a cult classic. Although it was very obviously inspired from the Robert De Niro-Al Pacino buddy-cop movie ' Righteous Kill' , the movie managed to hold its own.
