Being a jet-setter has its own share of problems. the most common — loss of luggage. A list of those whose stuff was lost, and sometimes never found.

The Union Minister of State for Finance had to miss the evening reception at the G-20 summit last week as her luggage was lost on a flight to Cairns.

Distressed, she tweeted, “All my formal wear in the lost suitcase! Not sure I can buy Saris in Cairns! Situation precarious!”. Thankfully, Air India located the bags and saved the day.

They headed straight to Selfridges, the highend department store, which was kept open just for them. Keep your friends close, but your luggage closer?

As someone who is well aware that losing her luggage could cramp her style, Hilton was worried when she was travelling to the Cannes festival this May.

On reaching her destination, she tweeted, “At baggage claim. One bag lost out of 10 suitcases. Not bad. Usually half my luggage gets lost here. Hopefully I get it returned by tonight.”

Ustad Amjad Ali Khan

In June this year, British Airways misplaced the maestro’s 45-year-old sarod. Furious at the loss, Khan said, “I don’t expect any compensation. My sarod is priceless and the only means with which I can communicate my work.”

BA managed to reunite Khan with his sarod, who called it an “epic reunion”.



Jacqueline Fernandez

When Fernandez’s luggage went missing in London, she helplessly tweeted, “Here’s hoping @FlyingBrussels find my lost luggage…foreign land, no belongings… strange that they don’t compensate for this distress.”

A month later Fernandez tweeted that she was no closer to her luggage.



Naomi Campbell

In 2008, British Airways lost her bags. Campbell lost her mind. She went berserk, cursing and thrashing at the crew. She was then asked to leave the plane, which she alleged was done because she was “black and famous”.

She was arrested for assaulting a police officer and fined and sentenced 200 hours of community service.



Victoria Beckham

In 2000, Posh Spice’s three Louis Vuitton suitcases (£2,000 each) were lost by British Airways.

Distraught, Beckham demanded a lifetime of free first class tickets for her, husband David and son Brooklyn and later accepted an undisclosed amount of compensation.
