Looking for some adventure that pays? Head to Antarctica as a postman
In these days of email and WhatsApp, the jobs of postal workers have become deathly dull; even being chased by a dog when on mail rounds back in the day may seem exciting now in hindsight. So, the advertisement to man a British post office in what is probably the southernmost habitation on the planet, in Antarctica, may be the ticket to bring some adventure back into the profession. After all, the job is just for five months of the year as the rest of the time, the weather would hardly allow any activity, postal or otherwise. For an outpost so remote, summer gets surprisingly hectic as countless cruise ships loaded to the rafters come a-calling, thanks to the 24×7 daylight. Even a post office in the average city or village in more permanently populated places would not get 70,000 pieces of mail passing through in a brief summer, the ecstatic outpourings of tourists eager to get that Antarctica mark on the postcards and envelopes. So, there would not be much time to miss internet or TV.

Sticking stamps may be a bit tricky and baths would be out of the question when the temperatures drop, but nor will there be any complaints of late delivery of mail from angry residents. And polar postmen will have to confront nothing worse than an annoyed penguin or two if they turn up their music volume too high when off duty.
